Thank you for choosing Douglas Women's Center, PC for your obstetrical care! We look forward to providing you with the care you will need during your pregnancy. We offer our patients sensitive care for women — by women.

Our physicians provide not only care of the normal obstetrical patient but care for high-risk patients as well. DWC employs a nurse-midwife who provides personalized care of low-risk women during their pregnancy.

We also offer complete care including in-house ultrasounds with video, fetal monitoring, laboratory testing, amniocentesis and breastfeeding classes.

We believe in family-centered maternity care. Fathers or significant others are encouraged to participate throughout the entire pregnancy and birth experience including prenatal visits, breastfeeding classes and the birthing experience. Our role is to support this family experience while ensuring a safe and healthy outcome.

Our Philosophy: Pregnancy and childbirth are experiences of health. It is a natural, normal process for women. The goal is to have a healthy mom and healthy baby. Our goal is to provide you with quality care and to assist you throughout your pregnancy and delivery. We are pleased to offer specialists in many areas of care, including high-risk and normal obstetrical care.

Compliance Statement: Our goal at Douglas Women's Center, PC is to provide the best quality healthcare for you and your baby. During your initial OB Interview appointment, you will be given a packet of valuable information which includes our Compliance Statement. Your original signature on the Compliance Statement form will become part of your medical chart and confirms your compliance to these terms. Any delay or refusal of compliance will result in the matter being given to the OB Medical Director for immediate dismissal from the practice.

Testing During Pregnancy:

Per ACOG (American College of OB/GYN) guidelines, the following tests are required. These tests will be done at specific times and some may need to be repeated.

• Obstetrical Panel
• Gonorrhea/Chlamydia Culture
• Diabetes Screening Test, 3-hour Glucose Test If Abnormal Screening
• Rhogam Injection If Blood Type Negative
• RPR (Check For Syphilis)
• Sickle Cell Carrier If African-American
• Urine Culture                
• Complete Blood Count
• Group B Culture
• Hepatitis B
• Pap Smear
• Cystic Fibrosis (Note:This test is not required if you have previously been tested in our office.)
• Ultrasound is performed during the first trimester and again at approximately 20 weeks.

Additional testing may be necessary if you have certain medical conditions — i.e., high blood pressure, thyroid disease, etc. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these tests, please discuss them with your provider or nurse.

Additional tests, which are not required, include:

• AFP4 — (Alpha Fetoprotein) — Screening for neural tube defect, Downs Syndrome (15 - 20 weeks)
• Amniocentesis — Over Age 35 (15-16 weeks)
• HIV Testing

Please note:

• We do not perform VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) because of the potential health risks involved.
• We do not perform water births or home births.
• Videotaping of the delivery will not be permitted; however, a regular camera may be used.
• Douglas Women's Center, PC does not share call with other practices. You will be scheduled to meet each of our providers, as we can not assure delivery by any particular MD/midwife.
• All deliveries are performed at Wellstar Cobb Hospital, which offers a Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit for premature babies so no mother or baby needs to be transferred.
